Where do our mushrooms come from?
The Chaga used to make our Chaga Tincture is wild-harvested in Alaska.
The Lion's Mane used to make our Lion's Mane Liquid Extract is grown organically on a small farm in California.
The Reishi used to make our Reishi Liquid Extract is grown organically on the same small farm in California.
Five of our mushroom powders used to make our Sacred 7 blend are grown organically in China. The other two (Chaga and Turkey Tail) are carefully wild-harvested there.

Mushroom cultivation originated in Zhejiang Province in China hundreds of years ago. To this day, Zhejiang is one of the world's leading centers for mushroom research and cultivation, and it's where our mushrooms come from.
Medicinal mushrooms are grown at scale there, and both the demand and the systems in place to meet that demand are present for medicinal mushrooms.

Currently the economics of cultivation and extraction make production of whole mushroom fruiting bodies for supplements prohibitively expensive in North America.
The demand for medicinal mushrooms in North America is growing rapidly, but the supply still does not exist. That's why nearly all mushroom supplements that are "USA grown" are made from mycelium on grain grown in a lab. Please see our article about fruiting bodies vs. mycelium to understand why this is important.
Basically, if you want real mushroom powder today (from a medicinal species and not white button mushrooms), it's going to be imported from China. Currently almost all U.S-grown product is grown indoors and is not 100% mushrooms. It's a combination of grain substrates, mycelium, and maybe a little bit of actual mushroom body peppered in.
Many people are also concerned about environmental aspects of China. It’s true that parts of China have problems with pollution. But China is geographically massive, and it is wrong to assume that all mushrooms from China are of lesser quality or somehow tainted.
Our mushrooms are 100% USDA Certified Organic. Just like a banana from South American can be USDA Cerified Organic, so can a mushroom from Asia.
Our mushrooms are grown by farmers who care, and who have passed down mushroom cultivation through their generations. They’re grown outdoors in shade houses with exposure to fresh air flow, light, and spring water on all natural substrate materials like hardwood and sawdust, which mimic the mushrooms' natural growing environments.
Our mushrooms are rigorously tested by labs in the U.S. for purity, heavy metals and contaminants before and after being packaged. Our products, including Sacred 7, are produced by a third-party FDA-regulated, GMP facility in California.
Certificates of Analysis are available upon request.
