Lily’s Lighthouse

Lily was five weeks old when her seizures started. Her mom, Sarah-Kate Boylan, has been looking for better answers ever since, and through Lily’s Lighthouse she now helps fund research for other families living with epilepsy.

A note from our Head of Content

How We Know Sarah-Kate

I first talked with Sarah-Kate in 2022, on the phone from my backyard. She had gone looking for answers for her daughter and ended up founding Lily’s Lighthouse, so other families could get those answers from real, peer-reviewed research instead of piecing it together on their own.

We didn’t fund that research and we had no part in how it was done. We’ve been in her corner since that first call, and we’re glad to point people her way.

What the Research Says So Far

Both studies came out in 2025. They’re early, and the authors say so.

A First Look at Reishi and Lion’s Mane for Epilepsy

A mixed-methods survey and interview study of 19 people living with epilepsy who used Reishi and Lion’s Mane alongside their medical care. Funded by Lily’s Lighthouse and run with Realm of Caring and Unlimited Sciences.

Preliminary: outcomes are self-reported, with no control group. The authors call for larger controlled trials.

A Clinical Case Report on Lily’s Experience

Where Naturealm fits

What Our Part Has Been

Naturealm didn’t design, run, or fund this research. When families who were already trying mushrooms reached out to us, we sent product at no cost.

If Your Family Is Living With Epilepsy

Talk with your neurologist first, and bring the label of anything you’re thinking about trying. Lily’s Lighthouse also has resources and events for families.
